The Three Hearts Curriculum was designed to give educators a guide on how to teach certain difficult topics to children in Pre-K - 8th grade classrooms while also teaching them to be empathic. Bloom’s Taxonomy was utilized for learning objectives that build with higher grades and age ranges. Guiding questions, guiding Bible verses, read alouds, Common Core State Standards for ELA, Illinois Social Science standards, Next Generation Science standards, and Illinois SEL and Early Learning standards are all included or embedded throughout the curriculum. The CASEL's SEL Framework was utilized as guide when designing units, lessons, and the assessment. There are a total of 10 units per grade. The units focus on topics such as; economics, community, climate, disabilities, race/ethnicity, language/identity, family, care & consent, activism, and religion. There are vocabulary words aligned to each unit and a script on how to teach the vocabulary words and introduce the topics in a developmentally appropriate way. There are at least 4-6 age-appropriate books with graphic organizers that align with the assessments and grade levels for each unit and activity. Also included is a pre- and post-Empathy test to give students before and after all units have been taught. It also includes presentations and newsletters for parents. This curriculum is meant to be flexible and implemented based on your classroom, students, beliefs, and time management.
